Program Components
Optional Electives
LAUNCH Academy offers electives relevant to the cohorts’ common interests and needs. Examples of past electives include Support groups, a College Prep course, and a Computer Skills course.
Mentoring
Students spend four hours per week throughout the year with a USF student peer mentor. Students engage in experiential learning with the support of their mentors who help them practice skills in natural settings. Mentors also introduce students to social activities on the college campus and surrounding community.
Applied Learning Experience (ALE)
In the Spring semester, students complete an applied learning experience (ALE) in an identified area of interest. This can be an internship, volunteer role, or paid work. Students spend a great deal of time in semester one figuring out what their strengths and preferences are. Students gain experience in career areas they have identified and we match their interests with meaningful opportunities.
Advising
Just like in college, students are matched with a staff advisor who is available to them throughout the school year. Advisors are key to action planning, problem-solving, and supporting the student outside of class.
